A Japanese teenage shogi star has clinched his first title in an official tournament.
15-year-old Sota Fujii defeated 2 top players of the Japanese version of chess.
In the semifinal of the Asahi Cup competition on Saturday, Fujii defeated legendary player Yoshiharu Habu.
He then beat 8th-dan player Akihito Hirose in the final.
The Japan Shogi Association says Fujii is the youngest shogi player to win an official tournament title and also to reach the 6th-dan rank by breaking both records set by retired Hifumi Kato more than 60 years ago.
The young talent racked up 29 professional wins in a row last year, breaking a record that had stood for 30 years. He was promoted to the 5th-dan on February 1st.
